BRIDGESTONE NZSBK TYRES
HONDA – 500,000,000 BIKES!
In a move that mirrors several high-profile series overseas, the NZSBK Championship now has an official control tyre for the season. The concept was a top priority of Mike Marsden, who took over the promotion of the series.“ The Championship was dying and there was a need for big changes to not only boost the profile of the series, but also give riders better value and I am really pleased to now have the support of the paddock on this.” The deal sees the competitors receive a discount on their tyre expenses and Supersport 150 riders, the nursery class for up and coming youngsters, will get free tryes for their series.“ The fundamental outcome for us is to assist in making road racing in NZ cheaper and more accessible to the racing community”, commented Adrian Cox, Whites Powersports Group General Manager.
Starting with production of the Dream D-Type in 1949, Honda have just rolled number 500,000,001 off the production line. Honda’ s global production, kicked off with its first offshore facility in Belgium in 1963, now spans 23 countries and, apart from those fraught Covid years, has steadily increased production every year since. Annual global production capacity now sits at 20,000,000 per year with a network of over 30,000 dealers around the world. With new technology being developed and rumoured to come on-stream soon, the humble Dream-D really was the start of something huge.
