T he Hamilton Motorcycle Club ’ s long awaited centenary celebrations kicked off late last year with the Waikato Museum displaying a range of artworks purchased from donations from the club ’ s 1970s ‘ Founders Theatre ’ street races in Hamilton . One work piece is now said to be worth around $ 150,000 ! Combined with the Waikato Classic Club , the annual HMCC swap meet on March 28 was successful although drawing a dwindling number of sellers as website trading takes over these types of transactions .

The main course was staged during stunning weather over Easter weekend as the centenary dinner got underway at the local Te Kowhai airfield . 140 guests were treated to a couple of circuits , a low pass and , finally , a re-creation landing of Robert McNair ’ s superb Tiger Moth to re-enact the club ’ s popular 1920 landing of the first aircraft in Hamilton during the club ’ s inaugural race meeting . Then it was down to business as president Phil Duthie made the formal opening and introduction , assisted by life member Steve Parker .
