The prototype will feature a world-first in electric powertrains : a ‘ hybrid ’ battery that combines NAWATechnologies ’ own ultracapacitors , dubbed NAWACap , with conventional lithium-ion cells . These are then merged in an innovative electrical architecture , enabling the best of both energy sources . The result essentially would see the NAWACap system playing an equivalent role to a turbocharger in an internal combustion engine . The NAWARacer certainly has the look of something born of the future . Hopefully , the next version doesn ’ t forget the brakes though . After all , sometimes you need to slow progress down a tad to ensure you get it over the finish line .
