BMW DEBUTS CE02 EV
Two years after debuting the CE04 ( which arrives here in NZ soon ) BMW is set to release its next fully electric urban commuter in the
form of the CE02 . Launching in Europe with two main specs , the full-power 11kW model and a lower-power 4kW for moped and restricted class riders , the CE02 is BMW ’ s attempt at bringing electric mobility to a younger audience . “ With the CE02 , we are striving for something new at BMW Motorrad and want to be pioneers once again ”, explains Edgar Heinrich , Head of BMW Motorrad Design . “ Thanks to its unusual proportions and striking graphics , the new CE02 is an uncomplicated , youthful form of singletrack mobility . The reduced design language stands for lightness and fun . The focus is not on utility but on emotional appeal , riding pleasure and uncomplicated , almost intuitive use .” The CE02 comes with the “ Flow ” and “ Surf ” riding modes as standard . “ Flow ” offers the optimal set-up for cruising along in urban traffic , while “ Surf ” provides a dynamic riding experience beyond the bustling city traffic . There is also a sport “ Flash ” driving mode that ’ s available as a part of the HIGHLINE optional equipment pack and as an original BMW Motorrad accessory . The top speed for the full-power variant is a claimed 95kph , while the expected range is listed as 90km . Acceleration to 50kph is brisk , listed as 3 seconds by BMW for the 11kW bike . Charging time for the 11kW variant comes in at 312 minutes from dead flat on a standard 0.9kW wall charger , while the optional fast charger drops this down to 210 minutes . The less powerful 4kW version charges in 182 minutes from dead flat . BMW says that thanks to its low weight of only 132kg ( 11kW version ) or 119kg ( 4kW version ) and the low seat height of only 750mm . That low seat and relatively low weight , however , should help ensure the bike is suitable for most riders . BMW also purports the CE02 to be pillion friendly . Tech-wise , the CE02 features a 3.5 ” micro-TFT display , USB charging port , phone connectivity and stylish LED lighting . In the HIGHLINE variant , the cradle mode allows the BMW Motorrad app in the smartphone ( held in a smartphone holder ) to be controlled safely as an additional display using the keypad on the handlebar . Pricing will determine whether the goal of attracting younger buyers to the brand is achievable . We have no word yet on when the CE02 is set to launch , but its bigger brother , the CE04 is finally heading our way with pricing set at $ 28,490 plus on roads .
