MOTOGP – WE WERE WATCHING...

Promising numbers from MotoGP viewing numbers also show an encouraging trend. Over half of the viewers over the last five years are under 35, reversing a longstanding trend of an aging viewership. This kind of unexciting statistic is, in fact, monumental for the sport. Adding to that is a 12 percent increase in the fanbase watching and record attendances for the season, along with an all-time largest crowd at Le Mans of 311,797 – the largest crowd in MotoGP history. Global TV audience grew by an average of 9 percent over the rounds, and it was a record number of rounds as well with 22 rounds in 18 countries, spanning five continents. On the YouTube side, MotoGP fans consumed over a billion minutes of action on the official MotoGP channel over the season. Next season the US viewership is likely to lose its collective mind with the introduction of the Harley-Davidson Baggers battling it out with top-shelf pilots on the big rigs. Sure, not as quick around a lap as the rest of the classes but

18 KIWI RIDER highly entertaining to watch them doing what they do. And entertainment is the name of the game, so if it gets more people into MotoGP, fantastic. Once you get new viewers to watch MotoGP racing, they will be hooked and so the cycle begins.
