and responsive which makes it quick and fun on sealed backroads . There are three power modes of Rain , Road and Dynamic . Each mode up from Rain gets progressively more responsive with Dynamic being noticeably quicker at all revs with more top end power too . Power to the rear wheel is via chain and the gearbox has six speeds . The clutch feel is excellent and nice and light in use . ABS and traction control come standard . All lights are LED . BMW has gone to a lot of trouble to make this machine a bike for the masses – that will happily accommodate riders of all sizes . To that end , the standard seat height is a very reasonable 790mm . A Rallye seat is an option for taller riders that takes the seat height up the 845mm . Then there is a 25mm lower than standard seat , but also a 25mm lower suspension model for a 50mm reduction . This should really help shorter riders gain confidence , allowing them to get their feet
down easily . This model could be their first foot hold in the awesome adventure market where I am sure plenty of towering models would exclude them – great stuff .
CHASSIS Suspension travel is a modest 170mm at each end and 150mm with the factory lowering kit . While 170mm is not MX bike numbers it is a reasonable amount for what this bike is designed to do – road , gravel road and low-level dirt riding . It has a single shock and conventional 41mm forks that offer no adjustment . Despite the lack of tunability , I found the suspension action great on road with good compliance , decent bottoming resistance and generally comfortable riding . On gravel traction and handling was limited far more by the road tyres than the suspension action . On gravel corrugations the suspension action seemed okay considering low traction levels . My gut says that with more gravel oriented tyres fitted , the suspension action , handling and traction would be fine and happily
