A sight we never anticipated : Kiwis playing in the snow at viewpoint Dalsnippa above Geiranger in Norway . Unusually low temperatures for the season produced some very wet snow . It was great fun and not a problem for the riders to ride through .
Below : The view down Lysebotn with the Fjord and the small harbour . Before the road was built , the only entry point to the village was by boat . Now the place is a must-ride for motorcyclists from all over the world , including New Zealand of course . changed colours and snowy tops popped up in the distance . The excitement rose as the temperature dropped . I could clearly sense that riding through snowy mountains was a thing for the Kiwis , some of whom had never experienced riding through snowy landscapes before . We did all that and a bit more as we got further north . Scandinavia can be a cold and wet experience even though June is summer , officially . Warm underwear and rain gear is a must going here , but then you are fine . Coming down from the passes we often had to stop and get rid of clothes , since it can be really warm in the valleys . We needed shorts and t-shirts too . Another thing is the long daylight hours , where you easily stay out till 11pm at night when the sun sets , to rise again around 4am . And it never really gets dark at all on the horizon . It ’ s magical . Riding in the mountains is amazing with seemingly endless curves going through the most stunning nature . The views are spectacular and the roads almost empty and in very good condition . Norwegians are careful and skilled road and tunnel builders , and there are lots of both on the way . Even the tunnels have curves ! Going to Norway by bike , the legendary road of Lysebotn is a must , so , after reaching the beautiful Geiranger Fjord , we headed south
