THE 43-HOUR VERDICT The VARG has settled into what it always was for me, a practical, highly effective bike within a certain window and a bike with clear limitations outside of it. The suspension changes have made the biggest difference. The firmer rear setup has transformed how settled it is in chop and rough corner entries, and the fork settings have been about finding enough hold-up to keep the bike in the right part of the stroke. Reliability-wise, it’ s still running really well. I’ ve had a couple of ownership issues but neither has been a dealbreaker( or out of the normal for dirt bikes). The bigger ongoing limiter is still charging speed, and that’ s why the VARG works best as either a time-crunch weapon, or as part of a two-bike routine where you rotate it with a petrol bike while it charges. And now that MNZ racing rules have opened the door, the VARG feels like it’ s stepping into a new phase. It’ s not just a clever practice bike anymore, it’ s something you can actually race and develop, as long as you accept the charging logistics and build your day( or your programme) around them.
