250 TRIUMPH AT BURT MUNRO CHALLENGE
Triumph’ s debut in the 250cc class at the
NZ Beach Racing Championships, held at Oreti Beach( Invercargill) during the Burt Munro Challenge, saw Alex Garland( 19) go 2-1 to take the overall at the iconic event, held alongside a round of the tarmac fraternity’ s NZSBK, the Bluff Hillclimb( also an NZ title event), Speedway, drag racing and one hell of a weekend. Garland rode injured rider Harry Gregory’ s Triumph TF250-C – a bike he had never ridden before... Garland and Gregory worked together in the pits with gearing and tuning to extract the best out of the bike in the punishing sand and were elated with the result. In the 50-lap feature race, Johnny Racz took a historic fifth win on his Honda CRF450R. Those 50 laps equate to 50 miles in the old money, so hats off to Johnny for an epic ironman effort.
