NEW LOOK NZSBK
With Round one already done and dusted at the Burt Munro Challenge , the next stop is the Timaru Grand Prix event on Feb 14-
15 ( just before this issue went live ). Kicking off the series at Teretonga , odds-on favourite and former NZ # 1 Mitch Rees was made to work for the round win , not least by a man with an eerily familiar name , Mr Tony Rees . Yep , ‘ Dad ’ is a demon starter and stole the holeshot a couple of times and was not about to cede that spot easily . Rees-the-younger did get the job done but the crowd loved watching the generations duel it out on superbikes . With Mitch leading the points , Tony is in second and there is a bunch of talented riders snapping at his heels . In the 600s , Jake Lewis is back to his winning ways , as is his better half , Avalon , in the Protwins . With a welcome return to larger fields after the tumultuous last couple of years prior , the series is looking good , thanks , in a large part , to some fantastic new sponsors coming on board . A new promoter is steering the ship for the Northern Rounds , Mike Marsden ’ s Capture Events is working in with the Tony Quinn Organisation , which owns the Hampton Downs and Taupo circuits .
Mitch Rees is among the favourites to take out the 2025 Superbike Championship title
