Fierce street racing on Boxing Day at Whanganui ’ s world-famous Cemetery Circuit saw the 2024 Suzuki International Series wrapped up in style .
The popular annual race series had built up a head of steam after the first two rounds were staged on purpose-built race tracks , in Taupo and Manfeild respectively , in the two weekends preceding Boxing Day , and at those two events the riders had worked to set themselves up for a thrilling final showdown at Whanganui . However , when drizzle wet the public street circuit early at the third and final round on Boxing Day morning , there were fears it may not only dampen the twisty tarmac , but also the enthusiasm of the riders and spectators assembled on Boxing Day . Thankfully , this was not the case and , particularly as the circuit dried out just before the first official races at about midday – already 90 minutes behind schedule due to several practice session crashes , the riders responded brilliantly . They producing some of the closest racing in the event ’ s history throughout that afternoon ( until about 6pm ), with record-setting times recorded in many of the classes , and the crowds did show up anyway in large numbers for the post-Christmas blow-out .
