The BMW GS Rallye is always a popular event, attracting riders on all brands of bike from all over the country. This year over 200 riders came to hang out at the beautiful Kai Iwi Beach and ride the gravel and tar seal roads of the region. Having ridden through the area on many occasions heading both north and south, I knew the riding would be good. When you’ ve got classics like the Turakina Valley Road on the route for the day, you know it’ s going to be a great ride. Heading up the day before and catching the overnight ferry to Wellington saw me on track to help set up the event … except for a three hour stop at Whanganui hospital to have an eye issue sorted out, it was all plain sailing.
