400 , a brand new lower-end market learners bike makes for an interesting comparison Royal Enfield ’ s Scram fits the new modernretro look . This one has a simple white and red colour scheme , which Royal Enfield calls White Flame . There are other cool colours available offering plenty of options . The easily recognisable ‘ R ’ on the key is a nice touch . Finish is a semi-matte on the frame and tank , and the plating on the fasteners looks pretty substantial . The dash is stylish , simple and very easy to read . All of these , and the three year unlimited kilometre warranty , should help dispel any lingering doubts over Indian build quality . The return of retro is now , and RE seems intent on leading the way . Riding in town , the 411 showed its attributes . There ’ s enough torque to stay with the flow of traffic at intersections , but not too much to gather unwanted attention . The clutch / gearbox is light and positive , though the long reach for the non-span adjustable clutch lever isn ’ t so easy , some will definitely want a shorter reach . Thankfully , faster roads aren ’ t panic-inducing . Pace for getting up to open road speed is enough to not be hassled by other road users .
THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT If you ’ re looking for the quick and nimble café racer to whip around tight country roads , the Scram 411 isn ’ t it . Likewise , if you ’ re looking for a road legal dirt bike capable of roosting through a berm or two , the Scram 411 isn ’ t it either . But ... if you ’ re looking for a comfortable and capable machine that looks sexy , is a pleasure to ride and incredibly beginner or returnee friendly , the Scram 411 nails that sweet spot . And , to be perfectly honest , If I had the money the Scram 411 is where I ’ d be spending it . I liked it that much .
SECOND OPINION – HENRY FISHER This single cylinder , 411cc machine is aimed to be the perfect cross between urban commuter and off-road machine . As my first bikes were the likes of Honda ’ s VTR250 and the Ducati Monster
