Think Triumph Motorcycles and chances are that motocross isn ’ t the first thing that springs to mind . That is unless you ’ re possibly 65 + and you remember Triumph dirt bikes the first time around . But a conversation in 2019 planted a seed at Triumph HQ , which finally flourished five years later at the opening round of the 2024 AMA Supercross series . Triumph , through its new dirt bike range , is targeting a completely different demographic in both discipline and age . Welcome to the re-birth of Triumph dirt bikes . to building the best bike it could . Which , to me , speaks volumes about the British brand . July 2021 was the official release from Triumph that the UK-based brand would jump back into off-road racing . But perhaps the biggest surprise was that 12-time AMA SX / MX champion Ricky Carmichael would be a key player in the development process of the company ’ s new dirt models . Following that , five-time enduro champion Ivan Cervantes signed on for the enduro side of the R & D and it was crystal clear Triumph wasn ’ t mucking about . From the early 1930s , Triumph produced allterrain motorcycles , which I guess you could call ADV bikes today – sort of , but not totally accurate . Triumph was supplying thousands of bikes for both World Wars , and come the 50s and 60s , Triumph bikes were killing it in the off-road racing scene . You name it ; Trials , Cross Country and Flat Track racing saw the company ’ s all-terrain machines
WHAT THE HELL IS TRIUMPH UP TO ? Firstly , I think what Triumph is doing is really cool . You might say ‘ yeah , it ’ s just another MX bike ’ but that wouldn ’ t be correct . The fact is , Triumph certainly didn ’ t need to try and prove itself in the motocross market , and the company took an extremely detailed and dedicated approach
