Roadtec 01 SE

Metzeler has been manufacturing motorcycle tyres since 1892 , just a few years after the German company , formed in 1863 , manufacturing rubber goods , started . Switching to exclusively producing motorcycle tyres in 1979 , they were bought by Italian marque , Pirelli , in 1986 and although owned by the same company , work independently and have always tackled the topic of tyre technology slightly differently . The new-to-market in 2020 Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE was one of a handful of new models launched by the German / Italian marque and , since it is winter , I figured I would start with a tyre suited to our , umm , ‘ variable ’ road surfaces , which is an undeserved compliment , although sounding like a slight slur . Pretty sure there is no real arguments there .

WHAT ARE THEY ? A few moons ago , eight years to be more precise , I was fortunate enough to go to Japan and test the Roadtec 01 at and around Fuji . We thrashed them in the dry , we thrashed them in the wet . We thrashed them on the track and we thrashed them on the street , as much as Japanese rules allowed ( hence the track bit ). The road surface ranged from really good
