BATTERY AND CHARGING At the heart of LiveWire is a Samsung supplied 15.5kWh lithium-ion battery which is air-cooled . Charging time varies depending on whether you are using the Level 1 or Level 3 charging option , though Harley-Davidson recommends a split of 1:4 when it comes to using the Level 3 fast charger to preserve battery life . The battery itself is backed by a five-year , unlimited kilometre warranty . Level 1 charging is provided by the onboard charging cable . The charging connector is underneath the ‘ tank cap ’. This is using your wall AC socket and is suitable for overnight or at work charging . The range per hour ( RPH ) for Level 1 is 20km , so you get to go 20km for an hour of charging . Harley-Davidson LiveWire dealers will offer free Level 3 fast charging . This is DC Fast Charging ( DCFC ), which gives 0-80 % charge in 40 minutes and 0-100 % in 60 minutes .
MAINTENANCE One of the big pluses of an electric vehicle is a large reduction in what we ’ ve come to expect in terms of regular servicing . While the LiveWire benefits from the low maintenance expectations of an EV , it isn ’ t without its own service items and service schedule . Items such as the tyres , brakes , and belt final drive all require replacement at an irregular interval depending on use with pricing comparable to a regular sports bike . Regular service requirements include an annual or 8000km service check where the bike can be checked over for wear items and the latest software installed . The drive gear oil needs to be replaced at a regular 13,000km interval and H-D recommends swapping out the brake fluid every two years . The catch is the maintenance on the LiveWire – particularly the service checks and software updates – needs to be done by a qualified H-D technician and currently the only guys trained up on the electric Harley are at Auckland Harley- Davidson , and Road and Sport in Hamilton .
