A fter waiting over a year for another go on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire after the international launch in the USA ( read our test in Kiwi Rider here : https :// joom . ag / Ff5e / p36 ), we finally have the world ’ s first massmarket electric motorcycle here in New Zealand . Question is , is Harley-Davidson ’ s LiveWire as good as I remember it to be ?
AWE ... SOME To say I was in awe of the LiveWire when I first rode the prototype “ Project Livewire ” back in 2015 on its world tour is an understatement . It utterly boggled the mind that Harley-Davidson of all manufacturers was looking to bring out an all-electric motorcycle with an expected release due for around 2020 . Sure , many Harley faithful were ready , there and then , to drop the Bar and Shield and head over to Indian at the sheer thought of losing their beloved ‘ potato-potato-potato ’ exhaust note , but those of us who hung on and embraced the inevitable really were rewarded . As promised , LiveWire arrived in dealerships in 2020 – 2019 for the USA and EU markets – and
upped the game over the ‘ Project ’ bike with a higher top speed , multiple rider modes , faster charging times and a longer-lasting battery . Harley also dropped the horrendously impractical mirrors from Project LiveWire , which gave you a really good look at your knees , but not really anything else ... For a bike that traces its development way back to 2010 and yet ( and I know I ’ ve already said this ) Harley-Frickin ’-Davidson is the first of the major players to bring to market a fullyfledged electric motorcycle that can hang with some of the quickest street bikes around ( up to 100km / h at least - Ed ). 0-100km / h takes just three seconds and without a low hanging exhaust to get in the way the bike can lean up to 45-degrees either way making for a very fun bike to rip around on .
SUBTLE CHANGES Apart from the quantum leap in battery technology since those early days of Project Livewire , the production bike has changed subtly throughout its development . The overall silhouette remains the same , however ,
