the rain under, I’ d wager we had one of the best setups of the rally. Karl, Glenn and‘ Scuba’ Steve made sure we were fed well too, probably the best food on site [ the venison backstraps were to die for- Ed ]. That wind though... we had our share of challenges like many others when it came to the Sou-Wester ripping through the campsite. One of our( admittedly ageing) tents immediately failed in the wind gusts resulting in some classic jerry-rig engineering with my zip-tie stash to keep it vaguely upright. You know what they say, if you can’ t fix it with either duct tape or zip-ties, it’ s buggered. Dawn on Saturday morning revealed some tent carnage and some soggy rally-goers huddled under the heaters in the main marquee to dry out.
EVERYONE NEEDS AN AG BIKE, THEY JUST DON’ T KNOW IT The Cold Kiwi has a long history of off-road motorcycle shenanigans and the Brown Brothers crew has over 20 years’ experience in the arena. Not only did they bring their traditional‘ custom’ machines- this year a pair of Honda Blackbirds with wildly differing off-road setups- but they also brought along a“ Chonda” drift trike and a trio of Ag bikes to muck around on. Now in its second“ unofficial year”, the Brown Brothers Bikes Cold Kiwi AG Races saw multiple riders join the ad-hoc racing around a five-turn course over the two nights of the event. This wasn’ t so much racing in the traditional sense, more a challenge to get around the course cleanly- both in terms of line choice and avoiding taking a digger and coating yourself in sheep excrement.
