TRIUMPH IN MX2
Camden McLellan won both MX2 battles in
Lommel, showing just how good he is in the tough deep sand. The Belgian round saw his teammate, Guillem Farres, take second overall and extend his lead while McLellan’ s success sees him close the gap to second placed Sasha Coenen, now only 13 points away. The Triumph Factory Racing teammates are enjoying a solid and consistent run as they continue to develop and perfect the Triumph TF 250-X. It also signalled a breakthrough for McLellan. The South African rider secured his first ever 1-1 result, a feat he enjoyed and is determined to do again. Farres was pretty happy with his weekend, extending his championship lead and, if anyone was going to finish ahead of him, he was happy to see it was his teammate, so that team dynamic looks like a healthy place to be.
HERLINGS KING OF THE SANDPIT
If you are good in the sand, then the Flanders round is a bonus, as it was for Jeffrey Herlings as he quite literally rode away from the rest of the field. Winning is one thing, riding into the sunset with margins of 45.4 and 39.6 seconds respectively for the two races is the stuff of legends. Already a legend, his weekend in the Lommel sand sees his lead in the standings stretch out into triple digits, as in 104 points. The Honda HRC Petronas rider did state before the season that he wanted to come to grips with the new machine, the new team and get up to speed quickly as time was not on his side and, well, the wise head of Herlings is ticking all of the boxes at the moment. The thing is, he is just as fast out of the sandpit..
