cleans a section I’ ve just fallen off in. That’ s not a healthy way to go into the hardest week of riding I’ ll probably ever do. So, I’ ve had to reframe it. This isn’ t about beating anyone. It’ s about respecting an event that will beat me if I let my ego get in the way of a smart, patient ride. The competitive itch doesn’ t go away, I don’ t think it ever will, but I’ m learning to point it somewhere more useful. At myself, at the terrain, at getting through each individual section rather than at a results sheet I’ m possibly never going to be near the top of. I will do my absolute best, try my hardest, and along the lines of what I heard our own Chris Birch say once,“ Death before DNF”.
