PLUS: Full Adventure styling; fun high revving motor; looks cool. MINUS: Weighty for capacity; lacks low end torque; a few vibes at revs.
Okay, time to sum up. Pricing aside, I hope this story shows there is no clear winner or loser here, both machines are great. They show there really are two ways to skin a cat, and both will do the job with axe-like simplicity. They will each appeal to riders with different needs and wants. I think the KTM 390 Adventure R will be great for riders who want the greater weather protection and tend to ride more tight back roads and gravel, while the Suzuki DR-Z4S is better suited to traditional trail-riding and off-road work with the dirtbike style ergos and longer travel suspension. However, that is not saying there’ s much in it if roles were to be reversed. Yes, the same, but different.
