gravel that you ’ re going quick enough … which is a good thing particularly on the standard road-based 19 / 17-inch tyre combo . It also makes it slightly less eager to dive in to a very tight line which is probably a sensible thing for a long enjoyable day in the saddle . On road the turn-in is light and predictable with a great balance between agility and stability . At all speeds the chassis gives secure feedback and can be punted well through the twisties . The V85TT is around 243kg wet with the luggage , centrestand and extra bits , up 13kg from the non-accessorised model . The ability to carry luggage is awesome and often a necessity , but like all bikes with panniers , even when empty you know they are there … the bike feels a little more rear heavy with a higher C of G and , of course , that feel only increases as you load them up . When you don ’ t need them , the ride is definitely nicer with panniers removed . Fully loaded up , the Guzzi is not an insubstantial machine , so having great Brembo 320mm twin discs with four pot calipers is ideal . Also , lean sensitive ABS adds an extra layer of safety and control . The brakes , both front and rear , are well up to the job , offering great peace of mind that they will always deliver . The larger touring screen was not to my liking . Yes , it offers much better all round weather protection and for most riders will be of great benefit in poor weather . Unfortunately , I ’ m an oversized bugger and the turbulence from the top of the screen was annoying . If I sunk down in the seat a bit , it was perfect … one of the joys of being tall , perhaps ? Overall , the Moto Guzzi V85TT is a pleasure to ride . It is plenty fast , capable , effortless , comfortable and slots in to that happy place between hardcore Adventure machine and road-only bikes that lack versatility . It ’ s something you could tour our country on and not worry about whether there are potholes or it ’ s turned to gravel , all with comfort and all the gear already attached . What more does one need ? It is the thinking man ’ s Adventure bike and doesn ’ t pretend to anything other than a bloody good exploring allrounder .
