Time to polish the old dears up and use them more often – keep it seemly. In an announcement from NZTA, those pre-2000 motorcycles will, from November 1, require only an annual WOF, not the six-monthly chore of old. Many of these old gems do little in the way of miles( the old imperial measurement before kilometres for the young …) so many were only really going to and fro and it was expensive to keep them legal having to pay the full WOF price twice a year. For the totally antiquated models( vintage that is), once the age of 40 is reached, even rego is as cheap as chips, because old, non-ABS, ill-tempered vehicles are always safer … Maybe old wicked classics are the way forward. We understand the editor is holding onto his 1992 BMW R80GS just for the cheap rego in 2032 and has been spotted skipping around the office at the thought of annual WOFs.
