For a while back there , we all thought twostrokes were dead . And , mostly , they are . Gone from road racing , gone from the road , but we can still get dirt bikes . Thankfully , a small band of plucky manufacturers are still making them and , more importantly , still developing them . If you ’ re a lover of two-strokes , you are going to love this new Husqvarna TC250 . It has all the cool things that inherently come with mid-sized two-strokes and more ; light weight , strong aggressive power , great torque , little engine braking affect and a very flickable feeling . Two-strokes stop on a dime , to coin an old phrase , and to my mind are still the quickest all-round bike for many of NZ ’ s conditions . But , of course , this is a motocross bike and no one cares about its all-round abilities , right ? Well , I think they actually do because without a specific 250-smoker class at the MX nationals … this machine is being sold to happy punters for all manner of events from trail rides to crosscountry racing and enduros as well as motocross . No doubt the TC250 is a versatile and modern machine . Sure , a 450 four-stroke is quicker across some terrain , particularly if it ’ s open and there ’ s good traction , but the extra weight and additional power is more tiring and this will have less fit riders struggling as the day wears on – you need to be really fit to race a 450 at a decent pace . However , first and foremost , this is a motocross bike and Husqvarna has poured some serious technology into it . Let ’ s get into it .

LATEST TECH People often thing of two-strokes as old tech , but the engine in the TC250 is is nothing of the sort . Electric start , fuel injection , electronic power-valves and two power maps are the attention-grabbing headlines which show the work gone into the Husky . As well as the tech , the new ergonomics and graphics are up-todate cool too . The bold new graphics ( BNG ) are inspired by the brand ’ s Swedish heritage , not to be confused with the TC250 Heritage which features a colour scheme with Husky ’ s white , yellow and blue colours . I like the grey on black styling of the 7.2 litre fuel tank , but , more importantly , I appreciate the rounded off and
