HUNTER BAGS TOP SPOT ALABAMA
That pesky Australian won another round of the AMA Supercross in Birmingham with a dominant display and a lead at the flag of 2.4 seconds. The Birmingham Alabama round came after the first non racing weekend after nine on the trot. Lawrence was keen to take some time off but here is how that went down …“ I was kind of feeling that wear and tear, and I was like,‘ I’ m going to take Saturday and Sunday off.’ I haven’ t taken two days completely off since last year, after Motocross of Nations. I thought I’ d feel fresh on Monday, but I actually felt like crap Monday and Tuesday. My riding wasn’ t that good, and I’ m like,‘ Dude, I’ m not taking two days off again!’” So there you go, sometimes rest is not the answer …
With a handy nine-point lead heading into the next round, Hunter Lawrence appears to have cracked his issue with consistent speed in the early laps, which if he had one, was about the only chink in his racing armour. With that gap welded shut, it will take a pretty good effort to stop the Hunter Family loading up the home mantlepiece with more American trophies. After a winning result in Birmingham, the Aussie’ s fortunes went south at the following round in Detroit. Hunter crashed in the main race, forcing a pitstop to fix a dragging front brake, netting him 18th place. This puts Lawrence into second in the championship just four points behind Tomac on the KTM. It’ s still all to play for..
