trail without too much difficulty. At the bottom, there was a shallow stream crossing and that signalled the end of the hardest section. There were still a few bogs to negotiate but the rest was pretty much flat farmland. The pit area was chocka with 100s of riders involved, and close by, the club had laid out a family loop where parents could ride with the kids or keep an eye on them. The local school had a food tent and a few commercial food trucks also provided refreshments. My venison burger was bloody delish. Instead of another lap, I walked some of the family track and grabbed a few more photos. To be honest, I was already pretty knackered after just 30km. It was a terrific first event with MMC; challenging, a little scary in places but all doable and a nice intro to South Island riding for me.
