Packed with locals. Estrosi may have been able to run to his bike and push it back to life as the lead was a strong one… but the thing caught fire. I’ve never seen so many people applauding the incineration of an RG500. The aftermatch, which I went along to, was rather enthusiastic… put it that way. No one had to buy a Heineken that afternoon… I think Wil’s management sorted the refreshments with glee. So yep, the DNF appeared beside Estrosi’s name that afternoon, as it has beside Rossi’s at the last Moto outings. But whilst I was dented by the occasion I was delighted to see Maverick Vinales (what a great name) take to the stage as winner. At the chequered flag he was a grand four seconds ahead of Marc Marquez whom I daresay decided to back off the “have a go” adrenalin juice which could have resulted in an ‘Estrosi moment’ and a 20-point loss. At this stage his lead is still pretty strong but he’s going to go for consistency now I suspect, rather than the winner’s trophy on the day. And after a couple of great Ducati results of late it has again placed Moto GP in a fine position, in that there have been four winning manufacturers thus far and five different riders have made it to the top of the podium. Unlike the Lewis and Mercedes Show over there on four wheels, although F1 has some major issues in terms of trying to get all teams up with the play, whereas in MotoGP there is clearly very little performance difference, going by recent results. It has to be said though that Marquez appears to have the edge, and that’s down to him because he is a sensational rider. He’s always picking up good numbers whereas the lad I have long cheered for has wandered down the letters lane of late. But he’ll come right. He has to… I’ve had a bottle of Italian vino in the fridge since the start of the year and its lid is still firmly affixed. Another DNO day… Did Not Open.
