WHANGANUI ROUND THREE
Round 3 was held at the legendary Whanganui Cemetery Circuit. It started off hammering down with rain and was extremely slippery for the first two practices but dried nicely in time for qualifying. I was feeling pretty good, getting a nice flow going and rode at a comfortable pace. To my surprise, I qualified a in 3rd which I was over the moon with. Going into Race 1 I was feeling really good and got an awesome start sliding into first for a little, but hit the curb and slipped back to 4th. On that same lap I pushed hard to take back 3rd at Robert Holden, then by the second lap the leader had fallen off slotting me into 2nd, which I held for the rest of the race. I was pretty much speechless going from 10th to 2nd within a week, and I knew I had a good chance at taking the overall. In Race 2 I pulled a wheelie off the start line which pushed me down to 5th, but felt good and overtook a few more riders at Robert Holden to take another 2nd place. While I was passing the winner of Race 1, he tried going around the outside of me and crashed, and the winner of the Race 2 fell off in Race 1, giving me the overall win for the day. I found the track like a motocross track on tarmac and had so much fun. I could not believe I went from 10th overall the week before to 1st overall, and this was only my seventh day ever riding a road bike. What an unbelievable weekend!
