time to see the remarkable beauty of our
country and to enjoy every moment. Every
moment unscreamed-at, of course.
I gather the road to Te Anau was lovely
one way, and hatefully tempestuous on
the return from Milford, but she seems at
peace with the world and with her trip.
She did get food poisoning in Wellington and
discovered that the hard faced helmets do not allow
for regurgitation, but its all part of the rich fabric.
We try one last time to narrow it down, the answer
to the why question, but it just gets whittled back
to the idea that ‘movement is life’. For this single
woman, with a steel backbone, an unblinking
view of the world, and a determination to grab
the joy of motorcycling the planet over, New
Zealand was a magnificent treat of fantastic roads,
world-beating beauty, and genuine camaraderie
wherever she went. She’s off to Australia next.
The treats are there, but not round every corner.
And, by crikey, that Nullarbor Plain is going
to be a long bastard at 80k’s an hour.
