Kawasaki and Hyosung Distributor for the country at the time , and if he wanted to buy a motorcycle brand . Hyosung . On the 1st July 2008 , Ken and business partner and friend , Richard Scott , took it on and established 32 dealers nationally . The bikes were popular , well made , performed well , and were reliable - the business was selling around 60 bikes month , for five months . In January of 2009 they hit rough waters , the GFC ( Global financial Crisis ) hit , hard . Numbers plummeted and Ken was forced to reconfigure the business . A series of moves
saw him eventually take over Spectrum Motors in Barrys Point Road which came with the Kawasaki dealership , and they ran successfully for a number of years , with sons Stan and Beau running the workshop and the showroom respectively , while Ken ran Motor Trade Finance from the front office . In 2011 at Pukekohe , Ken watched Bruce Anstey racing brilliantly , and it sparked a question in his mind . “ Where ’ s the entry to road racing in this country ; how do people start , and get into the sport , where ’ s the support and the pathway to follow ?”. Approaching the Auckland Motorcycle Club , he asked some questions of them – “ You run events - how about we bring about A class racing , at minimal costs , on a level playing field , and provide a pathway into racing , but include everyone who wants to do it ; mums , dads , kids , and grandparents ?” And they said , ‘ hell yes , let ’ s do it ’, and the series was born , with event rounds at the AMC Champs held at Pukekohe and Hampton Downs . Ken remembers that Connor London and Daniel Mettam were bucket racing at the small course in Mt Wellington and were some of the first to step up . Wilsport Management became the naming sponsor and put up prize money , and the Wilsport GT250 Cup was born using the Hyosung machines .
