myself . Saturday evening a BBQ at Joan and Kerry ’ s . Sunday the local Classic Trials Club put on a pukka Trial . Sunday afternoon was another sojourn to the local eatery – this time Chinese ! The Thursday before , Kerry and I marked out six easy , safe sections on the hillside on the Miles farm in full view of the spectators . These comprised A- and B-line alternatives using pegs and flags I brought down from the Waikato , so the Classic Club had their full array of equipment for the Sunday Trial . On Friday , Kerry and I helped the Classic Club set out sections further up the farm amongst trees , mud , creeks , logs , hills and tree roots , making sure there was something for everyone .
SATURDAY ACTION Saturday dawned a clear and sunny day - as we had ordered for the reunion . It was difficult to get the riders started as catching up with old mates and rivals was the order of the morning , with everyone taking time to check out the array of old and modern bikes , restored gems and historic machines in a variety of conditions . After a brief welcome and direction to the sections , the 21 competitors ( and up to another 20 spectators ) headed to Section One to take turns riding and observing . Then it was along to Section Two and the subsequent sections in sequence , whilst more banter and reminiscing took place on the flats between . The sections were ridden many times by the enthusiastic , while the really keen made them harder for their own satisfaction . The rest just enjoyed the old bikes and friends . By early afternoon , most had had enough , so returned to the start to receive the spot prizes supplied by Honda , MotoMuck and Michelin . There were so many that everyone received at least something . A sausage sizzle satisfied the hungry tums , and those keen enough headed back to ride the sections again - with some even riding to the top of the “ cliff ” for fun .
