which is shorter distance-wise than attempting
the same feet from the Hutt Valley side, but still
quite steep. I was relying on the pedal assist
quite a bit and ended up using a fair amount
of the battery power, but we made it up the
hill in record time, and the ride down was quite
exhilarating, almost scary, reaching speeds of
up to 50km/h. Though I wouldn’t want to go
much faster than that.
All-in-all, the Torrot City Surfer is a fantastic
commuter bike, and in this world where we are
leaning towards electric modes of transport,
it’s definitely a viable mode of transport for
getting to and from work. I’m not sure about
the need to fold it up, sure it makes it smaller
for transport in the boot of my wagon, but the
weight means it’s not something I would like to
regularly cart on the train or bus with me. That
said, with technology improving all the time,
it won’t be long until we have lighter batteries
and motors, and this will greatly improve the
overall experience.
If your commute does not involve any ruddy
great mountains then this might be a good
option for you.
For me though, short of a wee play from time
to time, I would rather continue to commute
on my trusty fossil-powered steed for the
time being.
