TRIUMPH DEBUTS NEW TRIDENT PROTOTYPE
T
riumph Motorcycles has confirmed that the
Triumph Trident will make a return to the
British manufacturer’s lineup from early 2021.
The new Trident will be powered by one of
Triumph’s signature triple-cyclometer engines and
will become the new entry point to Triumph’s
triple-cylinder models.
‘’The Trident design prototype marks the
beginning of an exciting new chapter for
Triumph, where the brief was all about fun,
from the look to the ride”, says Triumph chief
product officer Steve Sargent.
”With its pure minimalist form, clean lines,
Triumph design DNA and more than a hint of
our Speed Triple’s muscular poise, this gives the
first exciting glimpse at the full Trident story to
come. Ultimately our aim was to bring a new take
on character and style, alongside the accessible
easy handling and quality Triumph is known for –
at a price that’s really competitive’’.
The Trident design prototype comes as a result
of a four-year development programme led by
Triumph’s design facility in the UK. The UK design
team are the guys responsible for designing
every single Triumph and prototyping them
before production in one of the firm’s factories
around the world.
Conceived and developed by the Hinckley
design team, with additional styling input from
Rodolfo Frascoli, the Trident brief was focused on
delivering a distinctive, dynamic and attractive
new take on Triumph style and attitude.
Central to the overall form and brief, the Trident
is built around a compact powerful Triumph triple
engine which Triumph is yet to announce the size
of. The new power plant Triumph says has been
designed to bring all the advantages of a triple to
the category for the first time, with the perfect
balance of low down torque and top-end power.
As the Street Triple 660 is the current entry into
the Triumph family in general, the new Trident
could take its place in the lineup. That would
mean the Trident could potentially enter the
market as a LAMS machine, however, Triumph
is yet to confirm the proposed specifications
of the new Trident.
