doesn ’ t seem to be a huge amount in it . I did notice that on the left side of the engine , the new skid plate seems really quite close to the engine casing . I thought maybe I ’ d got the locating pegs installed backwards or that they were offset and I ’ d got them the wrong way around , but it didn ’ t make any difference to the clearance whichever way I installed them . It would be nice if the aluminium skid plate came out further to the side and higher up the engine for a little more case protection in a tumble . There does seem to be more ventilation in the front of the new skid plate , but during my ( extended ) browsing on the GasGas parts website I noticed that GasGas offers a foam insert to stop mud collecting , but , interestingly ,

it also mentions better cooling . It remains to be seen if the engine runs any hotter , but there must be a reason GasGas sells such a thing . I ’ ve not ridden with it yet ( I literally fitted it just before this issue went live ), so I ’ ll find out soon if it ’ s noisier with reflected sound and stone hits . It certainly looks better than the stock item , and it ’ s pretty well priced at just $ 285 . By the time the next issue rolls around , I ’ ll get on some gravel and see if I need to pop into Pararubber .
