from about two thirds of the way through the rev range , ( on both models ) and pulls hard , way further than I remembered . For a guy like me who sits at about 100kg , there is no significant bottom end power so being in the right gear is crucial for getting out of turns quickly . It ’ s hard to really tell the difference between the two 125 bikes . I understand that the 125X has a larger combustion chamber , different compression ratio , power valve timing and mapping than the YZ125 . And in 2023 the YZ125X was updated with a new cylinder , cylinder head , piston , connecting rod , crankcases , and expansion chamber . Apart from the 125X possibly not hitting as hard when coming into the power band , and a slightly plusher suspension setting , I honestly couldn ’ t feel too much difference between the bikes . I loved them both . Rounding out the two-stroke lineup , the graphics , mini bar pad and compression adjusters also relate to the YZ250 and 250X , both of which were not available to test on the day . On the four-stroke side , the big-bore Off- Roaders ( WR450 and YZ450FX ) also receive the same updates .
POWER TUNER APP Yamaha ’ s revised Power Tuner App is more user-friendly than ever . Using Bluetooth tech , you can wirelessly connect to the ECU and do a whole bunch of good stuff to change how the power delivery is put to the ground . There is also a new , more intuitive simple tuning slide bar for those who aren ’ t ECU trained and just want more or less power / traction here or there . Also , you can take advantage of the helpful new engine and suspension tuning guides to make your track side experience even better . The new threelevel selectable Traction Control System is also controlled through the Power Tuner so you can really tune your one engine for just about any conditions . Yamaha currently has the best tuning app on the market for trackside tune and ride .
