The third Riding Off the Map features a track which only has a short seven-week access window each year . While the track doesn ’ t open until early January , the goal is to feature it now , allowing plenty of time to mark it on the calendar . It ’ s a standout track that most adventure riders agree is well-worth putting on the hit-list .

LOCATION The Sedgemere to Severn 4WD Track sits roughly halfway between Hanmer Springs and St Arnaud , providing a link between Rainbow Road and the Molesworth Track . It can be ridden in either direction , which offers great flexibility for planning an adventure that combines all three routes .
TERRAIN AND GRADING The track has no major challenges to speak of , and is pretty much a Grade 2 from start to finish . The terrain is mostly well-defined twin track , with the exception of four main water crossings . The first two crossings , Bull Stream and Cow Stream , generally run less than a foot ( 30cm ) deep , and are easy to ford . Alma River is the largest of the four waterways , but at times of normal flow , the crossing is generally no higher than a foot ( 30cm ). The last crossing is Cat Creek which is either very shallow , or often running underground – especially in late summer or around long periods of no rain . At times of heavy rain , the Alma River can quickly rise and become unfordable , so be sure to plan riding this track around good pockets of weather .
