Team France – Gautier Paulin, Romain Febvre
and Christophe Charlier – won the event outright,
making it a fourth consecutive year that they have
taken away the coveted Chamberlain Trophy.
As in 2016, the runners-up were the men from
the Netherlands – Glenn Coldenhoff, Jeffery
Herlings and Brian Bogers. Host country Great
Britain – Max Anstie, Dean Wilson and Tommy
Searle – claimed the third step on the podium.
The always-fancied Team USA – this year
comprising Cole Seely, Thomas Covington and
Zach Osborne – finished ninth overall, their worst
result in 13 years (when they were actually no-
shows, at Lierop, in The Netherlands, in 2004).
In stark contrast, Team Australia finished sixth
overall, their best result since 2013 when they
finished fourth overall in Germany, and it was largely
thanks to their youngest squad member, Hunter
Lawrence. Suzuki man Lawrence finished fourth
and eighth in his two outings, good enough to be
declared the top MX2 class rider of the event.
The best result ever achieved by Australia
was third overall, in France in 2011, while
New Zealand has earned a podium finish on
