hakatane Honda dealer Tony Rees has
finally been awarded the 2017 New
Zealand Superbike Championship. This
follows two rulings by a Motorcycling
New Zealand (MNZ) Judiciary
Committee hearing on September 16.
The Committee appointed Bernie Harnett as
Chair while Peter Palmer, Todd Mountfort and Bob
Grover were the other members. MNZ appointed
an independent Secretary to record proceedings.
Appellants Tony and Mitchell Rees were present,
along with Sloan Frost, who had been initially
awarded the Championship at the final round
of the series at Hampton Downs on March 4.
A month after Frost was awarded the title, an MNZ
Judiciary Committee hearing (April 8) reversed a
March 4 decision by MNZ Steward Trevor Heaphy
at Hampton Downs, handing the title to Rees.
However, Frost then appealed these
