Mark James is a true Auckland lad . He was born at National Women ’ s in Auckland on April 18th 1967 to Mike and Pauline . Mark grew up in and around Ponsonby and is one of the few genuine inner-city born Aucklanders I ’ ve ever met . Later he was joined by his brother Paul , and sister Margaret . Dad Mike had been around automotive industries all his life , with a keen interest in bikes and cars , and he ran the Mobil Station in Ponsonby for 38 years , so petrol was in young Mark ’ s blood . I ’ d say that Mark James is an enigma , a true gentleman , and the owner of a deeply caring nature . One of those people who enter a room , maybe slightly late , with a hint of apology as if interrupting something . Then they smile and just light the place up . He is , naturally , one of the most popular riders in every group , he is quietly self-effacing and charming , and he has been part of Every Sun since the beginning . He rides a lovely Ducati 888 and is loyal to it as few other riders ever are . He appeared on the raceready Duke on day one of Every Sun , and while no other ‘ Suns ’ rider still owns or rides what they did eight years back , Mark does . He is a remarkable example of happiness in action . As the saying goes , ‘ happiness is not having what you want , but wanting what you have ’.
