HONDA CB750 IOM TT : 110 YEARS ON
Z1 restoration in progress
cams , valve train , pistons , careful porting and polishing . The bottom end was standard Z1 . The overall effect of this was that power was increased to near 150bhp , revving to around 10,000rpm and 12,000 if pushed . No fairing was added and the bars were stock . The frame was also stock .
THE TRUE Z1 Some collectors believe that the only true Z1 is the 1973 model . Modest changes were made to the model after the initial launch . In 1974 the black painted engine gave way to an unpainted look . In 1976 the motor inevitably went from 900 to 1000cc and a second disc became standard at the front . Various refinements had reduced the top speed of the bike , and by 1977 it was actually down on performance compared with the original model . The factory then began to shift the model towards a more sport / touring category . This , I am told by some enthusiasts , was the beginning of the end for the raunchy King of the Superbikes .
