WHAT ’ S RENAULT PLAYING AT ?
We ’ re unashamed fans of weird bikes here at KR . You just need to take a look at Publisher Vege ’ s favoured ride to know that … So , when we caught a glimpse of what Renault has in store for its stand at the Geneva Motor Show , it stopped us in our tracks . Debuting alongside the all-new all-electric Renault 5 at the Geneva Motor Show is a series of electric concepts from French startups , and the Moonbike from Nicolas Muron is one such venture Renault is backing . Yep , that is a weird name , but it goes with an equally weird concept - the world ’ s first electric snow bike . Muran developed the MoonBike in the French Alps in a tiny village called Saint-Nicolasde-Véroce in an effort to improve mobility during winter months . He observed that in the summer , there are countless ways to get around — including cars , bikes , skateboards , e-bikes , motorcycles , pogo sticks , and roller skates . Yet in the winter , mobility solutions were extremely limited — and they often had a large impact on the environment . When the snow fell , transportation primarily revolved around cars and snowmobiles . Touted as the first electric snow scooter , the Moonbike is revolutionising winter travel . At only 90kg , it is three times lighter than a snowmobile
and more manoeuvrable . It has a caterpillar track at the back and a ski at the front , can travel at 40 km / h and has a three-hour range . It is chainless and beltless , so it requires minimal maintenance – and is exceedingly reliable and efficient . This breakthrough is patented , built in the Alps , and will treat users to fun and memorable winter experiences . Alongside the Moonbike , Renault is also showing off an electric mountain bike , electric jet-ski , electric foil and a foiling sailing dingy .
