KIWI RIDER MARCH 2018 VOL.2 | Page 90

Raglan Adventure Ride T he Britton team has decided it is time for another adventure ride in Raglan. The April 14 event is based from the Raglan Club and is open to all brands of adventure-suitable motorcycles. Organiser Mike Britton, and his sidekick, Raglan local Alan Hall, have pulled out all the stops and promise a ride that will suit most adventure riders – from those new to adventure riding, and also the experienced adventure rider. “We will show some of the most stunning scenery in the western Waikato area including sweeping coastal views right down to Taranaki,” said Mike. The Yamaha Raglan Adventure Ride, is suitable for all road-legal trail/enduro type motorbikes and the larger dual-sport models. The ride is self-navigated, using route sheets, so you can ride at your own pace. The Raglan event will differ from previous Britton one-day events in that camping and breakfasts are not included and this is reflected in the entry cost. The Britton crew promise their usual high standard of event, with uncomplicated route sheets, some trail sections for those on smaller bikes, delicious and plentiful food for lunch and Saturday’s dinner, and a damn good day of adventure. Back in the mid-90s most adventure riders would ride their adventure bikes, loaded with camping gear, to venues through-out New Zealand, complete a full days adventure riding, then ride home again the following morning. We have been delighted to see a revival of this in recent times. We also welcome the appearance of classic machines, such as Phil Winter with his 1978 Yamaha IT400, Dave Cole with his 1972 Yamaha RT2 DT250 Yamaha, Alan Hall and his 1979 XR500 and Tom Brodie on his vert tidy 1977 YamahaTT500.
