Company founders , Luke Sinclair and Kendall Bristow
Back then a trip to the dump found an old BMX , they glad-wrapped some batteries to the frame , and hooked up an electric engine and the Streetdog , at least in concept , was born . In recent years , FTN has sold over 200 of the handbuilt Streetdogs to customers , and in meeting a couple of owners , their praise was fulsome . One chap , Rhys Haman from Tauranga , spoke at the launch and he was effusive , he absolutely adores his Streetdog and has become an unofficial ambassador .
HIGH-SPEC HAMILTON Over the eight years of their bike ’ s development , Kendall and Luke learnt a lot , both about manufacturing , and also about supply chain issues for the 300 + components for each bike . They moved to Hamilton for the manufacturing and engineering help the city could provide , and set up shop , building the polished and highly specced Streetdogs . They worked with suppliers of engines in research and development , and came up with their own design and customisation , dealing with issues of high performance and the dissipation of heat . The motor itself is supplied by QSMoto and weighs in at a respectable 10kg .
WHAT IS IT ? There are two versions of the Streetdog , the 50 and the 80 , with higher peak power and speed in the 80 , its greater performance requiring dissipation of heat via heatsink fins . The top speed of the 80 is listed as 80km / h , but on a smooth tarmac road I got to 90 without effort and still more in the throttle . The 80 has a 17kg removable battery , and a spare could be carried in the 30-litre storage capacity beneath the tank shaped cowl . Range , depending on terrain , throttle use , and weight of rider is around 80km . I took the 80 up a steepish hill and it handled my 100kg just fine , with very little reduction in speed . The battery has also been designed and customised in conjunction with a manufacturer and is
