Lower Hutt . I didn ’ t know what I wanted to do , but I knew at a bare minimum , I needed the fork seal fixing and the suspension re-sprung for my weight while it was in there . I asked Robert why the suspension on the Tenere 700 is often seen as less than ideal , and he explained that all motorcycles these days are built to a budget . To achieve that , manufacturers have to make savings somewhere . Often a place they can make those savings that is less obvious and less visible on cursory inspection is in the suspension . He went on to tell me the Tenere
700 is under-sprung for most Kiwis , and the rear shock is very basic , with the damping not really up to the conditions we have here in NZ .
SPRINGY OPTIONS Robert walked me through the options , from a quick ‘ pump and dump ’ with thicker oil to a completely new setup consisting of YSS fork cartridges and a new “ gold-standard ” shock with high and low-speed compression damping , rebound adjustability and preload . One of the options was getting the stock rear shock re-valved for different damping
