Kriega ’ s OS-Base allows Ben Wilkins to press some 15 year old Kriega bags into service for lightweight adventure riding on our ES700 Enduro .
Having covered fitting the GasGas luggage rack in the last issue < read about that here >, I wanted to sort a lightweight luggage solution . There are loads of options on the market ranging from cheap ( AliExpress ) to premium ( Mosko Moto , Enduristan , Giant Loop etc ), but as I ’ ve already got a fair bit of gear in the shed I ’ ve collected over the years , I wanted to see if any of it could be re-purposed and pressed into use – saving money and utilising things I ’ ve already bought . I ’ ve had some Kriega US bags for years , probably 15 or so , that are still going strong , which I use on most test bikes I ride - especially if I ’ m going away for a couple of days < read my review on them here >.
FITTING With the luggage rack already fitted to the bike I didn ’ t need to drill any holes in the rear fender for the OS-Base retaining strap bolts . Instead of using the fender , I mounted the bolts upside down on the side ‘ wings ’ of the rack ( giving a nice straight pull for the rear tension straps ) using some blue Loctite to prevent them vibrating loose . This bike came with the pillion pegs installed , rather than the heel plates and they didn ’ t work with the lower mounting straps , so I removed them and fitted the Kreiga heel plates to make for easier mounting of the OS- Base saddle-mount . My bags are early vintage Kriega US-type bags , and the OS-Base is designed for Kriega ’ s OS bags . AIso I wasn ’ t sure if they ’ d fit . I wasn ’ t sure if the distance between the mounting
