Part of the Old Coach Road
Are the cave drawings ancient or just made up for tourists ? It ’ s a long way from the tourist beat !
Father-son combos - Powers x 2 and Watts
600m on foot over the rocks to the sign at the tip for pics . Many combinations such as fathers and sons , brothers , cousins , friends and we even included our token Pom . What a great bunch of guys . New friends made , old ones re-kindled , soooo much bragging , bullshitting , teasing and banter . Nowadays it ’ s probably called bullying . To dirt riders , it ’ s just taking the piss and long may it be so . The individuals guys were a hoot . It would take too long to describe them all but a few are worthy of a mention . 65-year-old Pete ( Malcom Smith ) Finnegan is something else with the driest of humour and 1970 ’ s riding gear – nothing fazes him . Our Pom , Chris Cole , had to learn to ride sand and did so well . Jono had to try everything that Chris and Karl did and then some . If it looked shady , we let Jono go first . Craig had a bag full of serious drugs that by day three , everyone over 60 wanted a share of – oh yes , Craig is a Paramedic . The guide couldn ’ t believe that Larry sits down everywhere . Crocodile Bowden still isn ’ t sure about the deep creeks . Darryn is the King of river crossings . And Trevor completed the course fighting Cancer – a hero . Would I do it again ? NO . I have done it now . I want to go somewhere else before time runs out . Chris Stephens is on his second tour and at 59 years old it has been over 25 years since his first . The young ’ uns may well do so in years to come .
