remarkable network of solid stone fences. There
are bloody miles of them in perfect working
order. All I can say is those old buggers knew
how to work! More gravel followed, which was
excellent fun riding two-up. The gravel surface
had looser round stones than the ones found
near Auckland, more like the Wairarapa and
great fun for gentle slides without upsetting
the “gate opener” (Sean) on the back, or
undue wear and tear on the rear tyre.
A little more tar-seal and we were back at the
start. I decided not to do the last few kilometres
of farmland as the “gate opener” was starting
to fall asleep; it been a 4.30am start as we
28 KIWI RIDER
had driven up from AK that morning. So, it was
a quick thanks to Angela for a fantastic ride
(Mike was still out on the trails). It really was an
excellent ride. Sean had a blast and loved riding
with the other bikes nearby, an exciting first for
him. Angela made sure we had our Far North
Adventure badges and we hit the roads home
again. And with that, torrential rain started and
kept up all the way home – I’ve never been
so happy to be a ‘trailer faggot’ in my life.
Anyone looking for adventure really
must contact Britton Adventures – they
have a ride and a venue to suit everyone!
Thanks guys, another fantastic event!
