KR’s father and son test team
went North for their first go at a
two-up adventure ride on the
Yamaha Far North Adventure.
I
’ve ridden a few of Mike’s rides now. Mike is
the face of Britton Adventures, but really
he and his wife Angela jointly drive their
adventure motorcycle business forward.
Britton Adventures holds rides all over NZ
and in several very cool destinations around
the globe, including Cuba, Mongolia, South
America and Vietnam. The two of them cater
for both big adventure machines and smaller
trail bikes, depending on the terrain severity.
Mike’s a typical laid back kiwi, but his rides
have a strong emphasis on safety and have
always been awesome fun in my experience.
Each morning starts with an excellent briefing
about the day ahead, including what to look out
for, from scenic or hazardous sections and, of
course, how to ride both smartly and safely.
The Yamaha Far North Adventure was to be my
first adventure ride two-up with my son Sean,
who has just turned 13. I had fitted reasonably
knobbly tyres to my Honda Africa Twin and
planned to do as much of the harder off-road
sections – designed for the trail bikes – as I could.
