Ant ‘The Brit’ Lewis-Dowell joined
Britton Adventures in the beautiful
East Cape for a riding adventure.
I
met up with my buddies from the Bolivian
tour last night at Murray (he’s a die-hard
bastard, still riding hard enduros in his sixties)
and Janette’s farm in Te Puke (T-puki) where
they are Kiwi fruit farmers. We spent the
night reminiscing, eating barbecue, and
planning new adventures. Andrew (AKA the
King of Tonga) and Kevan, who were also
on our Bolivia tour, had joined us. Both had
sustained injuries in Bolivia when Andrew was run
off the road by a truck, and Kevan injured himself
rushing to Andrew’s aid. Now they were all fixed up
and ‘pinning it’ on bikes again. Mike Archer from
the Bolivia and Mongolia tours was there too. He
decided there and then to join Tim and I on the
East Cape tour the following day so that was fab.
The day following this catch-up was spent
travelling down from Te Puke to Gisborne with
the bikes in the van. On the way we were fixing
the bikes, fixing the van, and fixing me up
with my continuing painful rib injury. Tim and I
decided that a bit of strapping would keep it
more stable and save the sleepless nights I’ve
been enduring, although I was a little sceptical.
