single piston Brembo caliper . The slightest touch on the rear brake lever actuates the ABS and produce about as much stopping power as putting your foot down to the pavement and attempting to stop it yourself . While that is certainly hyperbole , the rear brake was a definite let down relative to the front . It ’ s obviously producing decent braking power but the ABS calibration needs some work to stop it kicking in so quickly .
INSTRUMENTS The analogue-style instrumentation is complimented by a central digital display with all the prominent LED pop ups ( neutral , fuel level light , ABS , etc ). These are rather tasteful , and add to the already fantastic aesthetic . Retro bike manufacturers love minimalism on their dials , as is the case here , skipping through at 20km / h intervals on the speedometer - but there are enough markings on the dials to read
the speed or RPM between these numbers ; much appreciated BSA . And there ’ s a very handy 2.4A USB-A and 3A USB-C power outlet already mounted on the bars for your GPS unit or phone . Lighting is LED for indicators and rear light , while a standard halogen bulb is used for the headlight .
THE SKINNY Coming in well-priced at $ 10,990 , the BSA 650 Gold Star is far and away the best retro-styled cruiser motorcycle I have ridden . The Gold Star 650 has solid performance , knockout aesthetics , and an overpowering vibe that lends itself to the pleasure of riding . It ’ s LAMS approved too , catering to a younger audience wanted a retrovibe as well as those who remember the Gold Star the first time around . Once I ’ ve got the adrenaline out of my motorcycling life , the BSA Gold Star could well pull on my heartstrings .
